Not sure if I am missing something but I cannot seem to create new folders/labels when using my Android device. I have to do it on the desktop.
Thoughts??

It's not possible[1] at least not in the app.
Ok technically it is, but the solution is horrible and basically requires using your phone like a desktop. Basically you have to open gmail in the android browser on your phone , click the three -- lines in the upper left, scroll to the bottom and select the "desktop" view, then use that to create new labels like you would on the computer. Easier to tag with an "unknown/file later" label and manage on the desktop later probably.
