I too have been battling prostate cancer. Bought some time and a few good years but have not won that battle. Your post has shaken me. Take care as best you can.

I have been a fan of Rod Stewart for a very long time. Find his version of "Have I told you lately" and listen. It gives me a small amount of peace. Perhaps it will do the same for you.

Make one more thing.

The Dash

the poem by Linda Ellis

I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on the tombstone from the beginning… to the end.

He noted that first came the date of birth and spoke of the following date with tears, but he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years.

For that dash represents all the time they spent alive on earth and now only those who loved them know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own, the cars… the house… the cash. What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard; are there things you’d like to change? For you never know how much time is left that still can be rearranged.

To be less quick to anger and show appreciation more and love the people in our lives like we’ve never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect and more often wear a smile… remembering that this special dash might only last a little while.

So when your eulogy is being read, with your life’s actions to rehash, would you be proud of the things they say about how you lived your dash?

What matters is how we spend the time we have, most woodworkers I know have spent what available time they had in very enjoyable ways, making them more cheerful, optimistic, and generous people for their hobbies.

Woodworking, whether as a hobby or a profession, is a life well spent.

Sad news indeed. To those of you who are diagnosed with prostate cancer, here is something to consider. I was diagnosed about 18 years ago. I did internet searches to determine what treatment option I would choose. I came across a clinic in Atlanta, GA who uses a treatment they dubbed Prostercision. I visited support groups of men who had been treated there, and visited the clinic for a consultation. They do a treatment consisting of radioactive seed implants followed in about two weeks by either six or eight weeks of radiation. I decided to do it. At the time I started my treatment, they started a new group of seventy men each week. They have treated men from all over the world. Their cure rate was in the 90 per cent range. At the time, you could stay at the Hope Lodge free, so I got to know many of the men in my group. My PSA has tested 0.1 or less for the past 18 years, and the men in my group that I kept in touch with fared the same. If you do a Google search for RCOG (Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia) you should get a hit.

Jesper, I am so sorry to hear of your plight. We all will face this in the near future. It is very hard to know what to say, but I will pray for you and your family that you may all find peace. Thank you for all the knowledge you have passed on to the rest of us.
