I am at my wits end, the conveyor switch is not working and now the switch for the drums seems to not be working properly. So what I would appreciate is can I get a sense of what I propose as a solution will work - I am going to remove all the switches. I will attach a separate 20amp switch that will power the drums. For the conveyor motor, I was thinking of attaching one of the variable speed controls that you can buy separately for routers. Doing all the wiring I can do no problem, I just want to be sure this will work before I dump money on this. I have had too many projects start to go through the sander only to have the conveyor stop. Thanks for your help.

We have to know what kind of motor you want to use that router controller on. Be aware that those controllers are cheap for a reason. They won’t take much load and are less than accurate with speed control.

Yep, I've done that to mine on occasion. Take the cover off, and blow everything. Sometimes fine sawdust get's between the contact points.

be careful, those vs speed controls are cheap and not highly recommended. good luck.

I also add to the warning on the variable speed controller. Do some research on the type of motor on the machine and whether it can be controlled and if you reduce the speed will it retain the power. Some motors drastically lose power as they are slowed.

And, I have a Performax sander and the switch on it collects dust. I replaced it. Took the old switch apart and found it packed with dust. Wasn't observant enough to reassemble it. When the newer switch got packed up, carefully took it apart, blew it out, and put it back together and it is working fine, until next time.

No comment on the rest of your situation but before you attempt to use a router-type speed control on the conveyor motor you really need to verify that it is a "universal" motor i.e. one that is rated to run on AC/DC and has brushes and commutator.
