What's this pile of scrap for?

There seems to be a need to shim or repair, or whatever, anything I build. I was forever needing a thin piece of wood. These thin pieces get generated ripping stuff so I started to save them. Surprising how often I go to this supply for something, most recently to adjust the height of a post that goes under the door (to be described later).

I also keep thin strips of hardwood for shims and repairs.

Me too, I only save the nice pieces but still accumulate them by the tub full when cutting or trimming turning blanks on the bandsaw. Way more than I can ever use, but I found that school art classes like them. Knife makers almost cry when I give them a box of exotics.
When I fill four 30 gallon cans with the not-so-nice stuff it feeds the burn barrel.

My scraps and cutoffs are taking over my shop. I save everything and I'm forever rummaging through my scrap bin (box, pile, whatever) to find just the right shim or glue applicator or wedge or glue block or .... I can't bear to throw them out. I need a little discipline.

In my past, I traveled maybe 40 - 45 weeks per year, for 15 years.
I accumulated a large pile of plastic hotel room key cards. All are dead-nuts 0.030". Call it a scant 1/32". Stack 2 for a scant 1/16".
These are the cat's pajamas, for anything not in a show place. Favorite use was stacks of either 2 or 3 for shims around inset doors in bookcase, cabinets, etc. Cashed out a half-pint of dimes, which tended to mar the surface anyway.
