I asked earlier about how to get a large table into a narrow stairway to the basement for my wife's knitting/sewing/quilting/arts&craft space (http://www.woodcentral.com/woodworking/forum/messages.pl/page/23/md/read/id/525842/sbj/cut-paste/) and reported that I had decided to cut the table in half and install removable legs at the joint (http://www.woodcentral.com/woodworking/forum/messages.pl/page/14/md/read/id/526627/sbj/table-halved/)
So now I'm reporting success in reaching the basement with the table halves and reassembling with two new legs held in place by the bolts holding the two halves together:
