Making two Federal side tables with serpentine top and drawer fronts edged in solid maple banding. The banding is about 1/8" X 1/8" and, can fairly well make the serpentine bends.

I soak my AIR dried wood in boiling water when making Shaker oval boxes.

Just wondering if soaking the maple banding in boiling water and, then, taping in place to dry would help. I think the maple has been kiln dried and I am not sure if soaking in boiling water is going to help them bend.

Holly would be the traditional wood for white banding. It is limp by comparison to maple. Soft maple is not a bad choice. But 1/8 x 1/8 is a small cross section and I would think it limber enough.

Traditionally the way banding is bent, like for a tight curve, is over a hot mandrel.

Proof is in the pudding. If you cut the troughs and the banding sticks in a dry fit you know it will stick with glue added.

Could you use one of my 6Q, 13in wide and 8 ft long planks of holly for the banding?? (ho, ho!) P
