What to do with an abundance of Sand Paper

I have mentioned many times that my friend and I go to freight auctions and sometimes we buy "Christmas Boxes". Giant boxes called "Gaylords" filled with random stuff. Opening them and sorting the stuff out is like Christmas morning. Never know what you will find.

This time its Norton Prosand 5" Hook and Loop disks. They are 50 to the box and there are four boxes. So now I have what may be lifetime supply of 220 Grit. Yep, they are all 220. I like and use both Norton sandpaper and 220, but not this much of it.

I'm trying to figure out a way to convert them to other grits. I thought about swapping them with people, but if mailing is involved it becomes pointless. In boxes of 50 they sell for about $31 or sixty two cents each.

Nice problem to have. I hate to store them to death or leave them for my kids to throw away. Any suggestions?

30 years too late..

.. could have sold it to the Soviets as toilet paper.

My advice is to throw it out before you die, together with most of the stuff you seem to have accumulated.

I'd list them on ebay.

I learned something long ago about giving things to people or organizations. They will often take things they don't really want, which means that what you're giving them might end up being wasted or just sitting somewhere else. If you sell them, you're guaranteed to get someone who will actually use them.

Not sure how big a box of 50 might be, but if you take clear pictures of them, I'm guessing they'll easily fit in a flat rate USPS envelope or some such thing. You'll probably get more for individual sales than selling all as a group.

The Soviets only wanted 80 grit and that was for their Cosmonauts.

I am dangerously close to hoarding. I have adopted a couple of new rules lately. One, knowing I will never actually clean and completely organize my shop, I have rule now that when I enter, I put ten things away. It's a funny habit. Sometimes I go in there to just get a pencil and have to overcome the urge to put ten things away.

The newer addition to the rules is Throw something away every day. Selling something counts.

My friend who gave this to me out of the pile of stuff we bought declined to list it, thinking it's not worth the time and effort.

Out of curiosity, I went out to see if I could find a listing like you might have (something that's unused, but the boxes don't look unused due to age).

Maybe your boxes are crisp, but you get what I mean - not a bright new listing from some norton retailer.

I see a sale for 4 boxes of P80 - they sold for $99.95 shipping included.

I think if you listed 3 boxes for 3/4ths of that, you'd not have them too long.

Ebay has gotten a little easier to list things in that you can just find something you're already selling and track down the "sell one like this" link and most would be pre-populated.

I used to trade stuff, but trade is again difficult, because either people figure they want something great in return for something mediocre or good, or you have to find the person who feels like doing a trade as a matter of humanity (get something they want, help someone else get something they want at once).

The boxes appear as good as new....

The paper is pristine and so are the boxes.

I may take a whack at E-bay or give them back to my friend and let him do it.

I hate to let them just sit around until my kids throw them away.
