Festool sander questions....

I have a 6" Festool Rotex Sander. It has the pad on it that has a hole in the center and 8 holes around the edge. I need some more sand paper disks. Looking on line two types came up, one with the eight holes like my pad has and others with many holes called Jet Stream. Which should I buy?

Without know any difference I bought some of the jet stream ones at Woodcraft. Is it OK to use them? Do I need to replace the pad? And, I am specifically looking for 80 grit, which of the grit types would you buy, Rubin, Granat, or what?

Festool is replacing the old 8 hole style paper with the many, many hole style. You can use the new style paper on your sander, but to get the full benefit of the gazillion holes you will need a new pad. I am waiting until my old pad wears out.

Mirka makes a mesh style "sandpaper" that will stick to the festool pad. I like it as it loads up very slowly and lasts a long time. Great for sanding off old finishes.

Rubin is designed for wood only. Granat is more general purpose.

Bottom line - don't worry about it.

By the way, there's nothing magic about festool paper. Other vendors have the many holed format, just be sure to get hook and loop.
