Sorry I cannot help with this question. But, for what it's worth, I have designed hundreds of projects with just pencil and paper. In fact, all of the design concepts I show my clients are merely line drawings on paper. If I need it to scale, I use an architect's rule. Erasers are great tools for editing. No hard drive needed, just a notebook.

BTW- I used AutoCad (Autodesk) and 3D Cad for 30 years at my old job. I can sketch designs faster and with greater efficiency with paper and pencil.

If you are a Windows user, you may try the Paint 3D program bundled with Windows. Or try the Windows store for a free app.

If you are using a Mac, try the Apple Store.

I have Sketchup Make 2017 on my Windows machine that works without an internet connection. I have the 2010 version on my Mac, which I prefer because it's simpler.

I tried to buy a copy of the 2017 version of SketchUp but the SketchUp site only offers the current subscription version. I will keep looking. Maybe on EBay?

SketchUp Make 2017 is still available for download, but the link is hard to find.

SketchUp is extremely versatile and powerful for all aspects of design, problem-solving and engineering and worth learning despite the hoops you need to jump through to get the "free" version.

You said you downloaded a "temporary" version. The temporary part should be "SketchUp Pro" and after 30 days the Pro features will disappear and you'll have SketchUp Make.

Thanks, Bob. I already had your Woodworker's Guide to SketchUp and am working my way through it. Now I have ordered your book on Craftsman furniture - my favorite style. I consider my work to be New Mexico Craftsman/Shaker :-)

Pat, another long-time user of DeltaCad here. Great for 2-D work fine-tuning designs and checking dimensions. I need a lot more practice with SketchUp to make it feel as intuitive but that is my problem and not that of SketchUp. Jim
