Question on Grizzly G1066R Drum sander Question?

I converted my Dual Drum Grizzly sander to Hook and Loop sand paper. It had a piece of felt on the rear drum to compensate for the fact finer sand paper is thinner than coarser Paper. You remove the felt when Installing the H&L Kit. I do not believe the rear drum is sanding. Or at least not much. I think someone here commented they had to lower the rear drum. So, what is the advice on this?
I spoke to Grizzly Technical but they were slightly baffled and basically said to give it a whirl.
