It's been a workhorse in my router table for 15 years but lately it's been making some serious grinding sounds with a burning smell. Something definitely ain't right, but my question is, is it worth messing with trying to repair it? It doesn't seem like the repair would be something simple like changing the brushes. Please let me know what you all think. THanks

Replacing the sealed bearings is not a big deal unless you've scored the shaft

Also have to watch the bearing pockets in aluminum housings. If the bearing has been bad any length of time it may have spun and wallered out the pocket to the point where there are several thousandths of slop. New bearings won't help in that case.
I've found that the bearings are a very light press fit on most new motors. No downside for the manufacturer - quicker and easier assembly, and it also wears out in ~5 years. If one used a heavier pocket wall and a moderately heavy press spec on sizing the pocket, the motor would last much longer.

I agree with both of the guys above. Find a real bearing house in your area and buy quality sealed high speed bearings. (I'm too old to order them on line, Whatever that is) On Second thought, check with E-replacement parts.
Might want to check the housings first, if they are wallowed, it's over.
Also, blow it out and check for dust and crud. Most of these units are not made to run upside down.
I have done this several times and used a piece of plastic pipe to press the bearing home. Not a tough repair.
