The internet has been around since 91, and there are more forums dedicated to appliance repair than there are flavors of ice cream.

You seem to be stuck on vanilla.

I posted the question from the office, now that I am home it not hard....RF28HMEDBSR/AA Dated Aug of 2014

It's a 28 cubic foot two doors over two drawers, one of the drawers is a freezer, the other is adjustable.

The ice maker is in the left side of the fridge and comes out through the door.

I bought it on a Black Friday special for $1800 Discounted from $2800.

For the first couple of years the ice maker worked fine. Now it stops about four or five times a year. PITA

I have searched a number of forums and Youtube for not a lot of help. It is discouraging that there have been four revisions to the Ice maker and drive unit, each costing about $200 more that the last. I have not searched lately, but I never saw anything that indicated Samsung had solved the problem.

I thought I would take a shot here. There is lot of knowledge here.

I've got a similar model. Also had an earlier model in prior house. I no longer attempt to use the ice maker. One of the problems I observed is that if you don't draw ice regularly, maybe everyday, the cubes coalesce into a solid mass. As a single and infrequent user, just couldn't use that much ice. Bottom line is that more frequent use is the only thing I can recommend, and not sure that is a solution.

Another issue is snap and pop noises from the freezer coil. Lots of design issues. Unlikely to buy another.

Thanks Mark, that's the stuff I should have been looking for.

This is the most expensive refrigerator I have ever owned. Really couldn't afford it, but I thought I would step up an buy one that was luxurious and maybe last me the rest of my life.

What bothers me is I had other refrigerators with ice makers and none of them gave me any problem other than eventually they wore out. None of them cost more than about a quarter of the retail for this one.

You would think Samsung would know how to build an excellent refrigerator. As I recall, this one got good reviews when I bought it. Lowe's was heavily discounting the Electrolux one they had on the floor, but I looked it up and it was five years old. Did not make sense to buy a five year old fridge.

Rather than fight with this sorry turd, wonder what I should replace it with?

Yeah, I am a single user as well. The ice does turn into a blob if you don't use it. I would have thought being a single user would have made things easier for the ice maker.

I am absolutely sure I will never buy another Samsung refrigerator. And probably nothing else made by them either.

With nothing, if it freezes water and keeps the food fresh, it is good enough.

Disconnect the water supply, put some flowers in the hole in the door.

Fridges that spit at you are an example of victory of technology over common sense.

I am a few years younger than you are, but i grew up behind the Iron Curtain, so no fridge in our house till I was 10,, had my first Coke when I was 11 so

having a hard time felling empathetic.

I’m convinced the best way to fix an ice maker is to unplug it and buy 20 pound bags of ice at the grocery store for $4.50. Wife had her knee replaced and I’ve been feeding her cryo cuff for a month. I switch back and forth with store ice, and blocks I make with red beer cups. Auto ice makers are real money puts! From expense at the start to rebuilds every few years.

Old fridge...ice cubes with round shape acted like a dam in the drinking glass. Hard to drink from. Then, had a leak so just disconnected it.

When shopping for new fridge, was told the number one reason for service was ice maker problems. Just two of us, and I drink water without ice. So did not include ice maker.

I'm the reliable ice maker....four trays and a few minutes to fill. No leaks, and well shaped cubes.

I understand the problem with crescent shaped cubes fitting the glass.

The more I think about this problem the more pissed I get. The idea that Samsung doesn't know how to make an ice maker that will work well on this high dollar fridge is stunning. The fact that they sold this piece of crap for five years or more is also pathetic. I will go to Lowe's and see if they are still selling them.

Reading through the Edmonds stuff, there are four or five things wrong. Amazing.

And they are unresponsive.

Not just a Samsung issue Barry. Whirlpool is no better. Besides the ice issue, we can’t use the back half of the top fridge shelf because things left there freeze.

We inherited a Whirlpool fridge that came with a dish under the vent into the main body from the freezer. Took out the dish and found out a day later why it was there: Water running into the crisper drawer.

Seems the defrost drain was plugged and a half inch of ice covered the back of the freezer floor.

Had to pull the ice maker to get to the drain. How stupid is that? Just left the ice maker out and started using cube trays like the old days.
