OT - Problem with Audi Air Conditioner

My son has a 5 year old Audi sedan. The air conditioner is not working. He thought that it was a freon problem so he bought freon and tried to introduce it into the system. His gauge read 100 psi and no freon went into the system. Does anybody have any ideas on what may be wrong and what he should try next?

Did it quit suddenly and finally or was it intermittent for a while? If you have the shop manual or electrical diagrams you can trace the wiring from the power and through the controller and switch. The shop manual should have simple debugging steps - if this, check this, etc.
Years ago I fixed air conditioners on two of our vehicles the same day. Both coincidentally had the same problem, a cold solder joint on the control board. Once I traced it down (with no shop manuals), the fix on each took 10 seconds with a soldering iron.

It is a lot easier to help with a car problem knowing the model year, the actual model, etc., not to mention as complete description of a problem as possible.

Check or replace the cabin filter.
Check for a clogged heater core.

If your son was trying to introduce freon into a port that had 100 psi of pressure he was either connected to the high port rather than the low port or the system has serious problems. Freon should be introduced into the low pressure port which typically should be 20-30 psi rather than 100 psi. Connecting the freon can to a port that has 100 psi will cause the AC system to charge the can rather than cause the can to charge the AC system.

The static pressure should be the same .
