OT Hotwater heater

Speaking of appliances, our h.w. heater control valve failed after just 4 months. Called the co. and they directed a local guy to install the part, which they sent to us immediately. Plummer refused to bill the company and said that he had NEVER GOTTEN PAID in any previous transaction. I paid the bill and off he went.
ONLY Seven months of phone calls and threats to ```RHEEM Controls ```distributed by HOME Depot got my $$$ back. Never again! P

why did he accept the job? If I don't get paid by a company I will not do work for them. It seems he never should have told you about it and dealt with HD himself.

Haha! Years (decades, actually) ago I got caught using the phrase "stagnant flow" in a technical letter. Got a good laugh, but will never forget.

I have always been irked by that phrasing. It is a "water heater" but many people call it a "hot water heater" Obviously you don't need to heat water that is already hot. Another proof that Americans talk funny.

Mike, You did not understand. I paid out of pocket and the plumber was happy that he did not have to deal with Rheem. I am the one who could not get paid by Rheem for 7 months and that took a HUGE amount of effort to get my money even though it was a Guarantee Item!

How do you know the plumber never got paid by whoever sent him to do the installation? Claim makes no sense. Nobody would have taken the job unless they were assured being paid by whoever hired them in the first place.
Why didn't you just screw in the pop-off valve yourself and avoid dealing with anyone else?

Philip, your plumber would have been assigned based upon a warranty service contract either with Rheem or HD. Most likely he was happy because you paid him more than he was due under the referral contract's scheduled price for the job. That would explain why it took so long to get reimbursed. Tradesmen get into these service deals at discounted pricing in the hopes of getting other work from the customer. Rheem might have gotten into a fight with HD, the plumber or both because of your direct payment.

He should never have taken the job if he had not got paid by the company, and he should never of had you pay him out of pocket.
I would have said this is under Warranty they called you. You answered and agreed to do it. Why is this my problem you don't get paid.

All these responses seem to be in defense of the company and condemn the plumber. All of you should know that the plumber is a guy with whom I have dealt with in the past and he is an honorable guy. He runs a family business in our part of SOCAL and the last thing anyone would expect from him is a Scam, a Rejection or any other kind of shenanigans. On top of that, one day I saw a plumber at HD bringing back 5 "water heaters", all from Rheem. So, I asked him; "what gives" and his response in unprintable but he was going somewhere else to buy WATER HEATERS!
