I share a computer in the office I share with two other people. One of them will click on anything in spite of being warned it can be dangerous. So, now every time I sit down there are about five to twenty five job opportunity messages. I close them one at a time with some annoyance. Robert, the guy they are addressed to does not see them because he comes in after I do and almost never starts the computer. He claims he knows nothing about them and does not know why they are addressed to him.

This is a Windows (10) computer and I run Google Chrome. He opens stuff in AOL. I poked around in Settings, but could not find a way to turn them off. I would appreciate someone telling me how to stop this madness.

I'm not sure it will work on a PC but it says it work with Chrome.

I use Firefox and it has a place where you check a box to block popups, worth looking for something similar in Chrome.

In Firefox its under "preferences" then "privacy & security", 3/4 of the way down the page. I also run it in strict content blocking - that gets rid of the stupid ads where they display whatever you last looked at on Amazon.

I don't use AOL, but if they use cookies, go into the cookies section of AOL and delete all the cookies.

If he is using Chrome, look at the cookies listing and delete ones that pertain to the website the job ads are coming from.

If AOL isn't company approved, delete it from the computer.

Run malwarebytes and Adaware to eleiminate any malware you might have on the computer

Search for the "Block Site" Chrome extension, and add it to your browser. The easiest way to block websites users can visit through Google Chrome is to download a browser extension. We recommend "Block Site," available through the Chrome web store.

If you are sharing a computer I say set yourself up as a user login in windows with a password. Each user can have different desktop themes settings with private files, if you want to share a file you save them to a shared folder.

AOL isn't a browser, it's an email site. If you can find the browser he's using, you should be able to block popups in the browser's settings. Ad blocking software may render some sites unusable (AOL is one of these).
