Temporary Green Walnut Sapwood

Walnut tree perhaps 24" diameter at ground, on property line where prior house might have been 60 years old. House gone, lot was cleared. About 20 minutes after cutting, sapwood develops obvious greenish cast, which lasts until the surface dries out. Heartwood looks "normal" before and after drying.
Curious, any ideas?

It is fun to saw a walnut log and watch the color changes as the chemicals in the sap oxidize and turn colors.

Yep, normal. The first walnut I ever had sawed was as fresh as it could be and probably full of sap, not cut in winter. came off the saw, and I was horrified to see it was green. Really green. I thought I had some weird tree harvested off some strange soil. The sawyer laughed at me and said to watch it in the sun. It took an hour or so but the transformation was beautiful. It just gets better. Fun to watch. Lay out a piece and take a picture every five minutes.
