Stock prep/storage question.

I went down to the farm and got some cherry and walnut out of my stash.
The cherry is going to require some fairly heavy duty prep. Several of the pieces have lengthwise cracks. I am thinking I am going to have to rip them and glue them back together. They were sawn on a bandsaw mill. would you rip and re-glue them while they are still rough or would you skip plane them to get a better look, then rip and glue them back together?

I cherry has lengthwise cracks it can only mean the board was cut from near the center of the tree. Wood within 2-3" of center of cherry is to be avoided.
Rough lumber is impossible to joint reliably. Skip plane and glue.

That was pretty much my thinking. I will pull out the big planer and run all of them through just enough to clean up the surface, skip plane, and put them into storage until needed. It seems that will make selection for future projects easier.
