I have not done much in the shop over the past year on the wood working front. Too many other things on the list like a pinewood derby track and electronics repair. Last of what I'd call woodworking projects were a few boxes from last year and a planer stand/shelf unit that replaced one of those common metal stands. I've been working more outside on house items and using some of the carpentry saws. Also, part of the reason for updating the till is that I've had a number of saws sitting in boxes gathering dust and now I can access them easier.

I'm in the process of trying to improve the shop some...next up on the hand tool front is to make some brace/drill/bit storage then add some spots for some more rasps on my existing rack.

Then I need to make a box for the extra Record 405 plane bases I have.

On the power tool front I need to finish planning my MFT cart, get the plywood for that, and then build it. Tired of having to move stacks systainers in order to access certain tools.

Had to laugh. I have along list of outside projects too (roofers are there today), but we have been drenched here lately! I ran outside and worked out there all day Sunday. Sure is nice to see the sun again. Nice work on the till and the collection. I took some time off from projects and have been working on shop stuff. Santa brought a new lumber rack, been cleaning, organizing, etc. Feels better, but still more to go. 20 years in 16 x 20 - stuff adds up! ready to make something now though. But, Spring is here and I'll be outside a lot - I hope.

For folks outside of Memphis, we have daffodils blooming like crazy, crab-apple trees, forsythia, pears, etc. already in bloom! Hard to believe it is Feb (63° today). Entering that time of year where I'm really torn between enjoying the outdoors and working in the shop. Tough call some days. Today would be one but I'm glad to be at work with a new roof going on - too much noise and I'd just get in the way.

I don't know how many folks here were on Badger Pond, but I recall a photo from Todd Hughes when he was moving that showed a shelf at least six feet long piled up with handsaws probably three feet deep or more. At some point, it becomes silly.

You're making good progress, but you didn't leave room for a bow saw (turning saw) and frame saw, and you need a drawer to store your saw sharpening supplies (files, saw sets, etc.).

I do have an ergonomics question regarding the shelf that holds your backsaws, Japanese saws and gent's saw: Unless the till is only intended to display the saws, but not provide access for use, it looks like it would be inconvenient to have to lift the saws high enough to clear the top of the shelf, since the slits do not extend through the front of the shelf.

Heh - going to have to pass on anymore saws. It was a struggle to fit all of these. I actually do have my files and saw sets in a drawer under the bench.

That's a good question. I used to have a shelf with slots in the front and it just didn't work out...the shelf sagged alot and needless to say there was little room for the three additional saws I needed to store. I grew tired of the sagging and the large rip back saw hanging on the left (Wenzloff and Sons) was just too large for the old shelf. Even with some reinforcing it just was not working out. The saws were easy to slide in and out though. There might be a way to make it work but I'll have to ponder it some.

I did have concerns about access but I've not really had any issues except for the W&S saw. It's not really about lifting it out but more about binding in the slots. I might have to take it down and widen the slots some. The other concerns are how close they are together...I'm not really happy with the doubling up on the right. In addition, I may have to add a few registration holes for the pull saws. They can slide in the slots which can make them harder to remove.

I'm going to see how this works out and if needed, tweak it some or change it again. I just have the shelf attached with screws from the back.

Oh yes... been working on building some pool stairs and flipping deck boards. Also, been working on family cars. Always lots of car maintenance to do.

The past few days have been nice (except for all the rain).

I don't really feel like I have a large amount ... .this is what I have accumulated over 16 years. However, I am definitely at my limit - I think I'm about two over where I want to be.

I plan on purging one to three saws. One or two of the carpentry saws and perhaps one of the backsaws.

All but three on the left are ones I picked up from estate sales - I ended up with 1 duplicate (two 10 points) and one 8 point. Just too many good deals and I've learned what to look for. Other than couple of the panel saws, the rest were cheap! I think I spent about $20 for five of those saws (the third panel saw was $3!).

I will definitely give one to each brother.

Even the backsaws were deals - I picked up three Adria saws for under $200 - someone was just cleaning out tools he never used.

Yeah, our roofer called Friday - he saw a window and they rushed in and replaced our roof Tues/Wed. Looks like the rainy pattern is back. Oh and 20's Sunday night! Oh boy!
