I made some progress this weekend on this monster bookcase.
I need to sand all the pieces parts, put finish on the panels, then I think I'm ready to glue it up. Still need to make the top and some shelves.
The finish on the cherry bits will be P&L 38. I was thinking of using some kind of water base poly for the the maple panels so they don't yellow as much. Thoughts? Suggestions?

I don't know what water poly is chemically, so I don't know if it will yellow. A water based acrylic is a safe choice. In any case the maple will brown up on its own over time.
Book cases have a lot of acreage to deal with!

If you're spraying, take a look at Target Coating's EM8000cv for a durable clear finish, or their EM6000 waterborne lacquer. Both are water clear, easy to apply, and durable. My personal preference is the EM8000cv (conversion varnish).

Not familiar with P&L38, but I've found that Varathane water borne floor finish is the best brushable finish. That's all you need for the whole thing.

I've used Minwax water based poly on many projects. Brushed it on. I does not yellow.
