I know exactly how you feel Ellis. When we downsized and moved from our place a year and a half ago , I sold all of my "flat work" machines and accessories for pennies on the dollar. I also sold (donated) about 1000 BF of rough sawn hardwood including oak, cherry, hickory and walnut for $200. At least it went to a good cause, a local High School wood working program. I did keep my lathe and tools and about 1000. lbs of turning blanks. Moving after 40 years was tough, but in retrospect it was time. We need to move into the next phase of life with optimism. Still lots of nostalgia for what we had built, but no real regrets for moving on when we still could adapt to out new life.

Enjoy this next adventure.

SAC is a well made machine; they just closed up a few years ago.

This planet makes no sense.

A very good friend of mine has rebuilt and sold used woodworking machinery all his life. He's had as many as 6- 14" Delta bandsaws in his shop at one time. Recently he has trouble getting anyone to even come and look at them, often just breaking even with the rebuilds. He used to have a waiting list. He contributes most of the issue with cheap Chinese machinery. Young woodworkers seem to prefer new Chinese machinery to rebuilt old iron.

Two 30-yard dumpsters ($730 each) to finish off emptying our barn when we sold. That was after two summers with multiple three-yard dumpsters of "trash".

Wages is what's wrong with this picture. Most manual labor jobs now days are verbally abusive and are thankless jobs.

3 phase eliminates it from most home shops. In a commercial shop is its function is now done by CNC router?

I could make a lot of cast iron diamond embedded sharpening plates from its table!

I have a good friend who built his own CNC router a couple of years ago that probably could have saved a lot of money by using that motor and ways on the gantry, instead of what he bought.

I hope that dumpster isn’t going to a landfill. I would think there are metal recyclers close enough by that would come take it for something.

I had to clean out my Mom's farm home of 75 years. Took me 5 weeks and I pretty much kept a fire going everyday. I do have fond memories of throwing a 40 year old vinyl recliner on the fire. That thing burnt so hot there was almost zero smoke. It had green grass sizzling around the fire ring!

I spoke with Ian Kirby today, who spoke with a leading dealer of used machinery, and the word is that SAC, venerable as it was, is now out of business. This wonderful machine is now a defunct vestige of the golden age of woodworking machinery. Sic transit.

3 phase eliminates it from most home shops.

Bill, VDF add-ons have become plentiful, and relatively inexpensive. They open the way to convert 3 phase to single phase. Plus they offer variable speed options.

Just a thought, but posting this up on OWWM or Woodweb might find it a user. Many of those guys are prepared to deal with heavier equipment and maintain an interest in these type of tools.
