Which bandsaw blade?

Barry Irby

It might be time to invest in a excellent carbide tipped Bandsaw blade. A resaw blade?

Looking for a blade that can live on the saw, cut a narrow kerf to reduce horse power.

Any suggestions?

I have a 14” Delta with no riser block. Years ago I got a Lenox Trimaster carbide blade. It’s great and lasts a long time, but the kerf is a bit wider than a standard blade. The kerf is quite a bit wider than the Highland Hardware woodslicer that I use for resawing. OTOH, the Trimaster can be resharpened.

Every one from Olson has worked well for me.

Also, they are cheap (not that you care :-))

That Lenox Trimaster is expensive. I paid more than $125 for it.

Barry, I'd avoid a carbide blade on a 14" bandsaw. Carbide blades are thicker and stiffer. On smaller wheels (under 16") they have a reputation for cracking and, unless you get the thinner Laguna Resaw King, they require a lot more tensioning than most (all?) 14" bandsaws can permit. Ideally you need a minimum of 3/4" width for resawing - ideally 1" - and these demand a good deal of tensioning. I would rather get a bimetal blade in your case. Even so, I suspect that you will not be able to go wider than 1/2".

I agree with Derek. Delta, Jet, and probably others lie when they say those saws will handle a 3/4" blade. Long ago I damaged some tensioning parts in my 14" delta with riser by trying to run a 3/4" blade and it wasn't even a carbide blade which are generally tensioned higher than the standard blades.

Even now with an 18" saw I stick to 1/2" blades.
