I'm trying to teach myself to silver solder broken band saw blades together. Will the flux I have for regular solder work with the silver solder? I figure someone on here will know.

I doubt it as the temperature range is different but what sort of flux do you have now? Something made for electronic/electrical work or plumbing?

No

You need a borax flux for silver soldering, ask for either hard solder flux or silver brazing flux.

You should be able to get it at a welding supplier, or jewelry making supplier. I bet Brownells & Midway have it too, since gunsmiths used to silver solder a lot.

Apparently this can be home made, no idea if this is good advice:

This is the stuff I use. Works great. There are fluxes that disolve in water for easy clean-up, while others are hard and difficult to break off.

There are two types of silver solder. I assume you are using high temp solder, and that is what the Stay Silv is for, I don't know if it works for low temp, which I would not use personally.

The Stay Silv flux is very good.
