OT...How to remove rust stain????

Barry Irby

In the condo I am selling there are white plastic laminate counter tops. There are several small rust stains. At least I think they are rust stains. How can I remove them? I tried lacquer thinner because it was there, no joy. I have CLR (the kind for rust and scale, not CRS, Can't Remember Stuff. Come to think of it I have that too.) And I have Naval Jelly.

Any suggestions?

Some thoughts.

Barkeeper's Friend - it has oxalic acid. Make a paste w/ a little water and place it on the stain.

Lemon juice or lemon pulp - you can also try making a paste with lemon juice and salt.

There is a good chance they are cigarette burns, on which Barkeeper's Friend is ineffective. If they are rust, I would try BKF first. I use it just slightly damp with white ScotchBrite or equivalent from Norton.
