Sign idea?

I want to make a sign that indicates where the main gas valve is located. This would be an exterior sign exposed to the weather. Is there a way to print the text on paper and attach it to a wooden backer plate and make it weather proof? I do not want to route a sign.

Back in the day, I needed to label a bunch of plants. I made tags cut from aluminum coil stock and printed labels on clear laser labels with a laser printer. Stick the labels on the painted aluminum and you are good to go. Some of them are 20 years old and are still in use.

Go to your local sign shop and get a nice one engraved in rock, or at lest printed on exterior material suitable to last the ages.

No the HP won’t work. It is ink and will fade or wash out.

paper and weather are hardly ever compatible. Scroll cut the word GAS in a board and hang it. People will get the meaning.

No, not an inkjet, it will fade and wash off.
Has to be a laser printer. I don't have the same on any more, but I am sure it was an HP laser. Take to Office Max or somebody who will print it with a laser.

There is commonly available laminating material which totally encapsulates a paper object subjected to normal outdoor conditions should last for a long time. Possibly direct UV for many hours every day will break it down more quickly but there is probably some form that will resist even that. 3M is one company which makes such stuff. I'd be surprised though if your local office-services company didn't offer this service.

The gas line cones into our house but the meter and main shut off valve is located on my shop building. So I want a sign ,at the house where the line enters, to indicate where the main valve is located.

Look on ETSY lots of people make custom signs on aluminum for outdoor use 6”x 24” delivered $35.00 seems to be the marker price

There is a product Rite in Rain tactical copier paper that might be an option. Not a cheap solution for one sign as its sold in packages at a premium.It is supposed to be weather resistant. Should be available at Office supply stores. If they have a business centre they may be able to print one or two copies of your sign out on this paper without you having to buy the whole package.
