OT - Winter Stuck Car Doors

It's not uncommon in CincinnatI to have a winter evening or overnight rain, then the temp drops and the rubber gaskets on the door and door frame are frozen together by morning. I've tried furniture wax and also Rain-X to keep them from freezing together, with no luck. Any hardy northerners have an answer?

A friend who lived in Wisconsin said that when he retired, he was gonna tie a snow shovel on the front of his car, then drive South until someone aske him "What is that thing?" And that's where he was going to retire.

I use warm water to thaw a door, or window.

I used to have the same problem until I learned a secret. Spray the area where the gaskets seat with silicone. Be liberal with the silicone. Once I did that I had no more stuck door gaskets in the winter. I do it now each year before freezing season.
Even the silicone won't help if the car is covered in a thick layer of ice.

I used a wipe-on silicon lubricant on the weatherstripping when I lived in Alaska.
Years ago I was driving from NC to PA and traveled through a sever freezing rain situation and, although the defroster kept the windshield clear enough to drive there was no other provision in the 1969 Fiat 124 for ice control. I discovered that, when I stopped for fuel, I was trapped inside with at least 1/2" of solid ice over the entire car. Luckily my horn was still working and after a lot of beating the gas station attendant was able to beat on the door seams enough to break the seal. Bad enough under most circumstances but this car was liable to failure of an exhaust system seal between the header and pipe so I could have been gassed in the process. It is surprising I survived my stupid youth.

My wife once went through a car wash on a cold day. The locks froze while she was at the movies with the kids. I tried many methods, including heating a key with lighter and introducing hot water into the lock. Imagine my chagrin when I realized we had the wrong car.

We were checking in at a Hilton Head SC resort a couple of winters ago, and the guard at the gate asked about the winter tires.

A Cleveland winter story for Christmas

When I had just moved to TN I was required to fly to Cleveland late Feb with someone from NC who had never been north. The plane approached the airport and took a wide circle to the north for approach. The metropolitan development of Cleveland came into view. Looking out the window the person from NC remarked about all the undeveloped land to the north of Cleveland.
