I drive my truck to work and park in the parking lot. why is my employer asking for proof of insurance? is it really any of their business? I never drive a company vehicle and even if I did doesn’t their insurance cover me? just curious or am I being peranoid?

You are operating a vehicle on their property. They want to be sure anything on their lot is covered by your insurance should your vehicle cause some damage.

Odd all right, but we were hit by an uninsured driver this year. Cost us $500 for sitting at a traffic light. I’m all for any checks against uninsured drivers.

uninsured motorists

First are breaking the law in every state.

Every state has a fund that's supposed to take care of the victims when an uninsured motorist causes damage. We ALL pay for that fund.

Its almost an epidemic. Arizona is said to have about 20% of it's drivers with no automobile insurance. I've heard that California's rate is even higher.

If you don't have insurance to cover your mis-deeds then the property-owner could well find themselves in lawsuits.

Where I worked the policy was the same.

where I am, you can't register without insurance.

So no third party personal injury insurance = expired licence plate

Register? Whats that?

In AZ they steal the little annual stickers that go on the license plate. They peel these off and stick them on a license plate for a car who's license has expired. As long as they don't crash or get stopped they can drive around looking legal.
