Wood lathe Handwheel??

The handwheel on my tail stock cracked today. It is plastic with 2 slots that accommodate a pin that goes through the shaft. As I looked online the ones available don't have slots. So am I faced with filing these?

Most machine shops should be able to put in the required slots. Where I used to work we added key ways to gears and hand wheels fairly often.
If the new hand wheel is aluminum you might be able to use a jig saw or a hand hack saw with a meal cutting blade for a rough cut slot with filing to get to the final dimensions.

Try getting some black CA glue and putting the problem away for a long time. I had done that with a tool rest top bar and 8 years latter it is still solid! p.
