I have used CA on sanding pads used on the lathe and it worked well. I have also used E8000 on ROS pads with good results. If you have the same PC sander I do you can buy replacement pads at Home Depot for about $14.

Once they start to fail, they are short for this world is my experience. Better buy a replacement before total failure.

I think you are right about just replacing it. It has given me a number of years of service.

Like Dick said, once they start going, they pretty much keep crumbling. I've replaced two on my PC, but keep the bad one for use with 3M abrasive pads to clean cast iron surfaces with WD40 as lubricant. Gets the iron very clean and the pad pretty cruddy, but at least it's not the one you use for sanding.

I have noticed that if you lubricate wet/dry abrasive sheets with mineral spirits on these sanders, the pads delaminate very soon. I used to do this for removing rust from cast iron tables. I therefore suspect that WD-40 might have the same deleterious effect on the pads.

I have two PC RO sanders, and go through the pads probably annually....I was in the middle of a large paid project, and ended up needing another RO sander. I decided to go with a Rigid RO, after doing a little review research.....and boy am I glad I did so...what a difference, and a lifetime warranty. Sorry PC....
