Band saw tires

Hi all.

I turned on my 14" Jet bandsaw (w/riser) this morning and the bottom rubber tire exploded into pieces. Scared me. I think the tires are about 20 years old. I think that's how long ago I bought it.

I have a WoodSlicer blade in it now. Suppose I should inspect its teeth now.

Anyway... suggestions for new tires?

They seem to run $16 - $30+.

Are they all the same?

Does color mater?

Orange? Blue? Red? Black?

Is there a brand everybody prefers?

Thanks for any suggestions.

You can also order the same tires directly from Sulpher Grove for a $20 more. That's what I did before checking around.

Excellent tires, much better I think than the stock tires. It took some creativity to get them on the saw.

Carter tires have always been the standard for quality. They happen to be blue, but the Chinese forgers learned a long time ago to replicate the color of the best in any category in their knock-offs.

When you go to install them, preheating them in a pan of hot water to make them a bit more flexible and using a little dish detergent to lubricate them will help immensely. If you happen to have cast iron wheels, you might consider some other method of heating and lubricating.
