Stringing - Will this work

I am building solid red oak furniture and I would like to put in contrasting stringing on the top. My question is on the stringing the runs cross grain. I was planning on using stringing that is 1/4" wide by 1/8" deep. In the cross grain portion, will seasonal movement force this out? THanks

I have done a lot of stringing. I expect you are trying to achieve a look similar to that in the picture. 1/32" is plenty deep for stringing.
There is a tendency to guess too wide for stringing and too wide looks bad. Do some test pieces and see if 1/8" wide is not what will look best.
Practice your miters.

Quarter or rift sawn for wide spans makes for a better result.
