So I understand if the signal is weak inside our home that the above would help. Does anyone have any experience with them? I see Walmart by has one for $40.

It works OK for me

I got one a couple of years ago called a Wilson DT4G because I had dead zones in my home and because I was using my AT&T cell service as a Hot Spot for my internet at the time. The device helped and I haven't had phone reception issues since so, I guess I would say it works although I'm not in a position to compare devices or your situation versus mine.
I have been studying this issue

I use a T-Mobile hot spot for internet. I used to get a strong signal from T-Mobile but they changed something. Internet became nearly useless. T-Mobile gave me one and it made a huge difference. The booster has increased my indoor signal at the hot spot from -79 to -54 db. Pages no longer time out do to slow download.
You can always try it and if it doesn't do anything helpful return it. However, if you are on T-Mobile get them to give you one for free.
Given the success of this cheap device I am going to install an antenna on my roof. Looks like I will be spending about $400 for the equipment. Depending on the boost, one can spend much more.
Works for me

Our house had terrible reception, so we finally bit the bullet and bought a booster. It has an antenna that we mounted high on the outside wall of the house, with a coax cable running down to the apparatus in the basement, and another cable from there to a broadcasting antenna in the living room. It has made all the difference, at considerable cost I might add. I wouldn't know about the low-cost unit you mentioned, but you'd have to try it and see.

For years, my cell phone would not work inside my house. If my cell phone rang I would have to answer it and run outside to take the call. Recently I switched from Verizon to AT&T and now I have great signal anywhere in the house.

Is your external antenna passive, that is, does not require 100V power?
Terrible reception here

So my wife pleaded with ATT and they gave us a free one. No antenna. Works great. Ask your cell phone provider first.

I had a rather weak cell phone signal and then the phone died and I got a different one that was useless in the house. I changed providers - you can find provider's tower location maps on the internet - pick one who has the closest tower.
I realize this may not be a good solution for everybody but it certainly worked for me.

cellular network extender

Another possible option
I had no cell phone coverage in my shop, behind a hill and covered with a metal roof. I bought and tried two different boosters, one with a good outside antenna. Neither was satisfactory.
I eventually bought and installed a cellular network extender ("femtocell") which connects to broadband (which I had in the shop) and creates a personal cell tower on the Verizon cell network. This has a strong signal. It actually provides public access but the signal isn't strong enough to get to the neighbors.
