Finger joint cutter??

Finger joint cutter??

Tom Norton

As I "tool up" for my up coming garage door project I had an idea I wanted to get some input on.

As I will be needing quite a few 9'+ lengths is cedar 1"+. I was wondering about using the above cutter to produce them. The "sticks" will be inside a lamination of 1/4" ply. Yep ,I know it is extra time but I have the whole Winter!!

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Commercial lumber yards likely sell cedar in 9' plus lengths. In a small workshop it might be difficult to supply the needed end-to-end clamping pressure for finger jointing while keeping the result both flat and straight.

Why finger joint?

I know you have the whole winter, but if the jointed timber is to go inside 1/4" ply skins, then butt, or if you want some fun, scarf joints are more than sufficient.

Thanks! That never crossed my mind. One less router bit to buy!
