Hemlock??

As I move forward in my planning for building 2 new garage doors I came across a few details. Many manufacturer's seem to use Hemlock as a frame work for the interior of the door.
Anyone here familiar with this species? How about availability?

Hemlock has been used for a century or more for barn siding in PA. The building below was sided with Hemlock over 25 years ago and it is still going strong. I know that some local saw mills in western PA have it or can run it for you.

There is a western and an eastern hemlock. Western is a commercial species, but usually mixed in with other western softwoods for framing, etc. While you might find some small mill sawing eastern hemlock you will not find it at your local lumber yard. Even at that you will be hard pressed to find it in long clear lumber, at least in southern Appalachians.

I heard or read that the Wooly Adelgid was wiping out hemlocks. I looked it up before making this post and find that it is damaging hemlocks but not completely destroying them. I hope the damage is limited and can be brought under control.

It is certainly destroying them here in the southern Appalachian Mts.
