What to use for exterior panel in Garage Door???

A friend has asked me to repair his garage door. It's typical overhead door that is 9' wide and has four panels in each sections. I tried to get him to just replace the door, but there are two of them side by side and he would probably end up replacing both because he is selling the house.

He thought I could just replace the bottom rail but the section is so damaged I will have to rebuild the section.

I have fir I can use for the frame. I need something a 1/4" thick for the panels. Whats in there is some sort of MDF. Can I get exterior grade MDF?

Extira is similar in look to mdf but made for exterior use. I made some columns with it and the have held up very well. I think that the thinnest you can readily get is 1/2”.

I had garage doors with masonite panels for 38+ years. They were looking pretty ratty around the edges for the last several years but would be quite adequate for a quick fix. The house I have now had the same thing and I replaced them with steel doors a few years ago. They look a lot better and were cheaper than I expected.

MDO - medium density overlay - is basically exterior grade MDF, made for signs. Not cheap.

My well stocked local yard has it in 4x8 sheets in 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4, both one sided and two sided (well their inventory does not always include all options, so I take what i can get).
