The started about 1400 PT. They are towing it out to sea to explode it. I just figured some here would think this as cool/ neat (in a history way) as I do.

There were thousands of these that were placed in the ocean during WW II by all participants. Not all of them were found and removed after the war. They remain dangerous despite their age. When the cables anchoring them finally rust through they float on the surface with the wind and currents.

My first ship after the Naval Academy was visiting a small town on the west coast Denmark when I reported aboard. After looking at the navigation charts I was amazed how many areas were marked as danger zones due to mines. The areas had either not been swept or the confidence was low that all mines had been detected and disposed of.
