Run a 2" line with a trap and a fairly tall standpipe and you do not need a vent. The line is self venting because the hose from the washer is not sealed to the drain.

Also, remember that for a gas dryer the dryer vent is considered similar to a flue and must be in metal hard pipe not flex pipe, not even the metalized type.

You also need an air gap where the drain hose enters the drain line to prevent siphoning.

You also need a local gas shutoff and a metal exhaust piping.

You should also install a pan under the washer with a drain. Not a big deal in the basement with a concrete floor but it may payoff big time on a wood floor.

PSS.... If the drain hose is a loose fit, that is an air gap and the reason I said to use a taller standpipe was that modern machines pump out so fast you need a little storage capacity in the pipe until the water starts moving.

2" line, with a trap. If you want to play it safe, vent it. If the hose from the machine is not an airtight fit it should self vent (keeps the trap from being siphoned empty when there is a big slug of water running down the drain). In most cases I vent it if I can without moving heaven and earth to do it.

As Lee said, gas shut off at the appliance and good metal pipe for the dryer vent - keep flex stuff to an absolute minimum and avoid all together if you can. Last one I installed (electric, so less of a big deal) I got a telescoping galvanized L-box thing (in link) instead of the flex line from the dryer to the wall.

And don't forget that once you get the washer and dryer out of the basement, you'll need to collect some sawdust and carry it upstairs to manually add it to the wash.

These fittings are a miracle. I could have used pex without buying crimping tools to connect to washer faucets and basement supply. Would have made life easier. The cost for a small job is small compared to the benefits.

I really like the supply and drain combination installations for washer supply and drain like this. The capped opening is the top of the standpipe Barry suggested.
