Black Screen

Several weeks ago there was discussion about a background color sudden change preventing reading of discussions. For some foolish reason I ignored it.
My notebook is running Windows 10 and Chrome. As I have been doing for six months or more, this morning I downloaded the latest version of CCCleaner and ran it. When I then started going through the forums I follow, I could read the main screen here but on Messages, Turning, and Hand Tools the main part of the screen was black - I could read the thread titles, but not content.
Fortunately I was able on my smart phone to flip back 8 or 9 pages and find the discussion about screen color. Once I disabled "use hardware acceleration when available" in Chrome all is well again.
I'm writing down the instructions for future reference in case this happens again.
