I've reached a decision....

Dennis E Peacock

I will be retiring from WC Weekend Accomlishments. I'm trying to narrow my scope of things I need to focus on in life, family, friends, and even in my own woodworking. With many things grasping at my daily time slots, I've had to decide on what things I can trim down on.

It's been a wonderful time sharing with all of you here on the Weekend Accomplishments, I've met several of you in person over the years and I can honestly say that I've met some of the best people on the planet....my woodworking buddies and aquaintances over the last 10+ years.

I admire and appreciate every one of you and Thank You Ellis for allowing me to post what I felt would be a good "community" effort for WC and it's members.

Peace, Blessings, and Prosperity to each and every one of you. May we meet again one day....here....or there.....

My name is Don and I'm a Turning addict. There, I finally can admit I have a problem. The problem is not enough time to turn! I work as a Medical Imaging Tech for a living but that's just so I can light and heat the shop and buy more tools. I've been turning since 2000 and it has changed my life. I never had a creative outlet before I discoverd Woodturning and now I can't get enough. After I turned my first pen, my wonderful wife saw how excited I was and bought me a mini lathe. She now refers to herself as a "Turning Widow". She is a potter and quilter so she understands the obsession. My interests in turning are many and varied and I'm sure I will not live long enough to try everything I'd like to, but I'll give it a shot. Unfortunately we don't have any children or pets so you'd think I have all kinds of free time to turn, but for some reason I don't. I belong to the Adirondack Woodturners Association in upstate New York, the Mohawk Valley Woodturners, the Old Country Guild of Woodturnes and AAW, as well as the Northeastern Woodworkers Association. (I'd also like to learn to do flatwork someday.) Happy and Safe Turning, Don

I'll be around from time to time. Just remember if you're ever out this way...my door is always open for a visiting woodworking buddy.

Dennis, it has been a joy to read your Weekend Accomplishments posts all these years. I know that our visitors have greatly enjoyed hearing about your woodworking exploits and getting glimpses into the lives of your family and friends. I for one will be most pleased to hear from you here whenever the spirit moves you. We couldn't ask for a better standard bearer for this community that is WoodCentral. You've done us a fine service and added a welcome dimension to the dialog here.

Dennis, I also read you posts and enjoyed them quite a lot. They will be missed, but I certainly understand your "retiring". I thank you for all the interesting information. I hope you enjoy your new leisure time. Hope to see more posts from you when you feel like sharing!

I am 68 - be 69 in May 2010, have been retired about 4 years from Emerson Electric where I worked as a Engineer for about 40 years. Woodworking is my hobby, I refuse to do any woodworking for money as I am afraid it would become another job. I am very lucky to have a great woodworking shop. My son's and friends helped build it a couple years before I retired. It is a 30 X 30 shop with a 30 X 10 upstairs storage room, heated and air conditioned. I saved and purchased much of my equipment before I retired. I am busier now than when I worked, but seem to get little done :~>. I helped my son remodel his home, made all the woodwork from rough white oak, finished the vanity (from locust), lower kitchen cabinets (cherry) built cedar lined oak chest for my DIL, built a bathroom for my best friend and in process of building storage cabinets for SWMBO.

I've reached a decision....
