Instead of guessing about your system: My advice would be look at each device, write down a description and any name on it (perhaps even photos), then trace each wire/cable and make a diagram of where the wires come from and where they go as well any labels on the places where they plug in.

You might describe how it works now and how you want it work differently, if appropriate.

Then it might be easy for someone to know what you have and how things are connected and could provide useful advice.

If you have trouble with tracing and documenting, ask a teenager.

Did some checking. We have a Philips HDTV Antenna that is attached to the DVD player. For some reason we can only get the local channels with it running through the DVD player. It never seemed to work when attached directly to the TV.

It sounds like you might be making the connection wrong or you are selecting the wrong input on the tv menu.

The fact the antenna runs into the "DVD Player" sounds like it is actually a DVD recorder/player. Players, the most common one, have no need for receiving signals from an antenna or anything else. They are strictly output-only devices.

What is the make and model of the "player"?

What is the old unit? Knowing that someone might be able to determine what it does and name a suitable substitute which does the same simplifying the re-wiring. It sounds as if the one you have now has an RF tuner which I believe is not common now.

The old unit is a Magnavox VHS and DVD . Found the receipt nfrom 2009!

This AM we played with the connections and now we are able to get all the channels through the TV! Later I am off to pick up a new DVD player.
