Another drawer pull question

If you were going to buy pulls, what would be the most "standard" spread you could have on the pulls?
I was making the pulls out of cherry and one of the Dads said it might be better to have store bought ones. Something in stainless steel. So what spread would you use? I told him to go buy them.
