minwax stain marker drying time?

Keith Newton

I'm needing to do some details on a project which I'd like to use these pen's on. I've never used them except to touch up blemishes after all other finishes were applied.

My question is, Can I use it after using a minwax stain, but before using a wipe on poly, or will the spirits in that just dissolve the marker stain? And or how long should it dry before following with the wipe on?

The best way to answer your question is to make up a sample board and apply the marker and then over coat it with the clear finish. As far as I recall, the solvent of the Minwax color pens is alcohol. As long as the pen coloring is dry, an oil based of water based clear coat should not affect it.
