I’m preparing for my first small river table project and would appreciate some advice from people with more experience.
The mold I’m using is approximately 60 × 30 × 10 cm. I plan to place two pieces of wood along the outer sides of the mold, with the straighter edges facing outward and the natural, irregular edges facing the center to form the river.
The wood will be close to 60 cm long and under 5 cm thick. I’m still deciding how much space to leave between the two pieces and how wide the river section should be.
For the pour, I’m currently looking at this deep pour resin, which is intended for thicker castings and river table projects.
Before I begin, I have a few questions:
Should I seal the live edges before placing the wood in the mold?
What is the best way to prevent the wood from floating during the pour?
Is it better to pour the full depth at once or divide it into layers?
How much extra epoxy should I prepare for uneven live edges and possible leaks?
Are there any common mistakes I should avoid on a first river table project?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’ll also share some photos once I begin the project.
