Every now and then for the lols I will check out the woody influencers to see what they are punting.
If I was a total virgin looking in to woodworking as a retirement hobby I would spend more time there comparing and taking notes.
The hobby trade must be huge judging by the size of these channels now. Or is it ?
There are many ways to bid up subscription numbers if you have sponsor's.
People tell me, you should start a channel.
As if. I don't have the time or energy.
No. My aprons to dirty to film and I don't have enough useless props lined up on the wall to be a credible " serious woodworking dude".
Master classes Maurice, you should do master classes. Good money !
No. There's nothing they can tell me that I won't have to dismiss as urban BS.
To tiring.
They will have watched to many YouTube channel's to believe what I show them face to face.
Besides, you can't do a master class with raw beginners. Master classes are for established, dedicated students and professionals who are commited.
But what I can do is answer honest questions, give feedback.
The first forum that banned me did so for telling them about the importance of protecting yourself against thickness planer kick back. They actually deleted the whole thread. Astonishing. I advised that anti kickback fingers are desirable. To take care if their resto planer did not have them.
Why so many old powermatics are selling as cheap as radial arm saws. Liability baby.
Imagine a kickback in a workshop full of high school kids fing around with the machines when the teachers back is turned.

They all work hard on the street cred as I suppose you need to but in the end there is something missing. It's not a real working shop. It's a studio. Give me a fly on the wall vid of a workshop full of guys working. Then you have my interest. Some of the Japanese ones are awesome. Some dude who's been making plane blocks all his life or the Blacksmith Ouchi. Cool dude, fantastic chisels.
Real life. So much more interesting than hipster beard dude pouring yet more tinted epoxy. So obviously self taught. Wave machine guy. Cringe central.
Anyhoo, back to work for this old dog.
