I have been having a problem with my lathe "shutting down" from time to time and have needed to reset the button on my inverter. It has happened more and more lately and yesterday, it shut down and will not reset. The manual that came with the lathe suggests that if the spindle or motor stops, replace the motor. I fear there are a lot more electronic parts that come into play - like the inverter. How can I determine if it is the motor or the inverter that has the issues? The inverter is coding 000. Anyone know what that means? Thanks.
One of the first steps is to tighten all the screw terminal connections in the inverter. Not sure how/why but they seem to get loose over time. Here's hoping it's an easy fix, as always, unplug and observe electrical safety procedures, i.e., don't become part of the circuit...
There can be issues with motors, but highly unlikely if you are a hobby turner. About the only things that do go wrong on a 3 phase motor are the bearings. Almost certainly the VFD when just a shut off issue.
I've learned that the 3520A is slightly different than the 3520B even though I said they were identical in the article. Maybe the color of the wires, or something?
I have.a.352oA.and somewhere i have.a CD that may have 5he codes. I will be home late tonight and try to look.it up. As others have said take the cover off and tighten all connections especially all the wires comong from.the swith and motor. Unplug the lathe before you do this.

I'm trying to remember. When wiring up and programming a replacement VFD for a Jet1642 with the help of Harvey Meyer I discovered the wiring on his PM3520A was different from the diagram in the (excellent) article on your web site for the 3520A/B. I found an email discussion from Nov 2015 where you and I discussed this difference. I don't have time at the moment to dig into the details but here are the relevant excerpts:

In communicating with Harvey I did discover one thing which you may be interested in adding to your article: the control circuit in Harvey's 3520A has two significant differences from the 3520B. On the 3520A the bottom of the speed control pot is not connected to to the start/stop switch and to the blue wire inside the headstock, but instead brought to the inverter as a separate red wire. A minor difference is that lathe does not have a tachometer so the places where you describe AC connections to the tach module do not apply. Everything else is the same, but the wiring difference might confuse a 3520A owner, especially since your control circuit diagram title indicates "3520 A/B". BTW, the PM 3520B and the 115v Jet 1642 EVS have identical control circuitry, the only difference is the 115v version obviously does not use 230v connections. If you want to add this information for your readers, I can supply appropriate photos and comments.

I read with great interest (like with eyes wide open) that there is a difference in the wiring between a PM 3520 A and B. As you might guess, I made a big assumption that they are the same without having examined an A model. A friend of mine has an A model so I will make arrangements to check it out in the near future.
My big question is, if the wire going to the bottom of the pot goes back to the inverter, where does it connect? The blue wire on the B is a ground. Is there more than one ground terminal in the set of 10 control terminals?

As for the connection for the red wire on the PM 3520A, I don't know. Harvey only described where he connected that wire on the new inverter and did not supply a photo, diagram, or description of the original connection. As I followed your diagram and found it matched the 1642 control wiring, I was briefly confused by his wiring instruction. An email exchange revealed the differences between his lathe and the 3520B/1642. My guess is PM/Jet found a way to reduce the control wire count since they needed two wires for AC when they added the tach display in the headstock.
NOTE: I am assuming here that there are just two versions of the 3520, A and B. It is entirely possible that PM changed their wiring midstream somewhere. Looking at a few more of each model (or soliciting peeks at the wire colors and connections from WCers and Creekers) might give more confidence about the versions.
Note that I was following Harvey's notes "blindly" at the time without an understanding of the VFD programming and wiring - this entire experience went a long way to demystify things and I feel fairly comfortable now with the VFD terminology and programming. From what I can see, at least some if not most of them use similar conventions.
I will take some photos and double check the internal wiring colors on the Jet 1642 in case you want to add a note about it to your PM article.
