A Pair of Cases to hold Bibles Translated to Korean

#1

Alan Young

I'm working on a fascinating new commission. I'm making a pair of "Bible Cases." These cases will each hold a copy of the entire Bible translated from English to Korean. The translations were hand written by a 94 year old Korean woman for her church and for her family posterity.

I begin with printing out various views of the project. This rendering contains most of the information I need for the harp brackets, leg stretchers and case sides.

A number of pieces underway. A set of harp brackets and leg stretchers- the four side pieces for the cases. Two of the side sections have the gothic windows cut out.

Here is the glue-up for two of the four side sections .

Parts and side sections. I glue up the other two side sections next. Then proceed with work on the case sections.

Bases are nearing completion. Now working on the Case Pieces.

Fascinating indeed. And your exceptional liturgical aesthetic never ceases to amaze. I'm intrigued that commissions like these somehow find you.

Tell me she hand-wrote those bibles? They're not type-set? Still, what a work of translation.

Congrats on a wonderful commission, Alan.

Hi Alan,
Outstanding.   What species of wood are you using?

Thanks Ellis-I'm curious also how these "find me"  The woman who did the work of of translating did indeed hand scribe the translations in Korean text. The papers were then bound-by what method I do not recall- I'll find out more detail.
