To protect everyone on the site and keep our email from being blocked or blacklisted, we’ve made a change to how outgoing email works.
From now on, email must be sent using our web-based mail system (webmail).
Here’s why.
Email accounts today are a frequent target for automated attacks. Even when a password is strong, it can be stolen by malware, a compromised plugin, or reused from another service that was breached. When that happens, attackers don’t need access to our website — they can send mail remotely from anywhere in the world using the stolen credentials.
That puts the entire site at risk. A single abused account can cause:
- Our mail server to be blacklisted
- Legitimate messages to be rejected or lost
- Delays or blocks for all users
Webmail avoids this problem entirely. When you send mail through webmail:
- Messages are sent directly from our server
- There is no remote SMTP access to exploit
- Stolen credentials cannot be used from outside locations
- Email delivery is more reliable and trusted by other mail providers
With today’s always-on internet connections, a separate email program (Thunderbird, Outlook, etc.) is no longer necessary for most users. Webmail works from any device, anywhere, with no setup, and provides the same core features: folders, attachments, replies, and search.
This change isn’t about limiting users — it’s about protecting everyone’s ability to send and receive email reliably.
