This cutting board was inspired by a new shop floor!

Although mostly a lurker here at WoodCentral, I enjoy it immensely, especially the Shop Shots and Critiques sections. Online I go by the name, Jack Harrison.

I just finished a nice little project, inspired by a new parquet floor I recently installed in my basement shop after a water main broke in my front yard. I have made many cutting boards before, but this one is the wildest yet!

This cutting board is hard maple and mahogany. The pieces are not inlays; they are solid woods that go all of the way through to the bottom. There are 288 individual pieces ranging in width from 1/32" to 18/32". The addition of the dovetailed keys strengthens the mitered corner joints.

After sanding the entire piece to 600, I applied three coats of Behlen's Salad Bowl Finish. Even though intended as a cutting board, I cannot imagine putting a knife to it.
