WALNUT CEDAR CHEST

A monogrammed gift for a friend's new granddaughter.

SHOP OWNER: Bill Pfahl

LOCATION: Winchester, VA

I thought you all might like to see my latest creation, a chest for a friend's granddaughter who was born in December. The design was loosely taken from an antique chest in my possession made of poplar with turned feet.

The carcase is walnut with western red cedar lining. I wanted to enhance the raised panels, so the final thickness of the stock is 7/8 in., to gain the relief.

The inlaid monogram is made of ash. The inlay was particularly troublesome and took a week to finish. The finish is Watco Natural Danish Oil with General Oil & Urethane Top Coat.
