WEDDING CHEST

A cherry and maple blanket chest from Norm's plans.

SHOP OWNER: Mike Grennier

Here is a blanket chest I made for my brother's wedding. My neighbor started to make one of these for his wife and I thought it would be a great gift for my brother and his bride.

The chest is made of maple with cherry panels. I built it from a Norm Abram plan, although he used pine in his version.

The finish is three coats of blonde shellac. I used Zinsser but would use a better quality shellac next time; I thought it was too heavy. I then put a few coats of Briwax on it; the top has four coats.

Overall, I'm very happy with it.
