A Dimar 8-24 dado set Review

Here's a little review of the Dimar dado set that I purchased a month ago.

It's an 8" stack dado set with 24 teeth, two 1/8" chippers, one 1/4" shipper and one 1/16" chipper. It came in a very nice plastic case with a lot of protective foam.

All the teeth were protected by some plastic/wax material that easily peeled off without residue - same stuff on the Dimar router bits. The teeth are VERY sharp...I have the nicks on my hands to prove it. The teeth are also very thick and the brazing looks even and clean on every tooth.

The 5/8" bore on the blades and chippers is a very tight fit on my GI 50-175. Noticeably tighter than my Freud TK906.

I decided to try a 3/8" width first so I loaded up a zero clearance plate, clamped a piece of scrap on top, turned on the saw and raised the blade. I could not tell if there was any added vibration - guess that's a good thing.

First, I cut grooves and dadoes in poplar. WOW, NO scoring in the grooves, NO tearout (because of the throat plate I imagine) and a perfectly flat bottomed groove. Then I tried some melamine, I got two biggish chips - one where the saw entered and the other at the end of the cut where the saw exited. Then I tried to feed the melamine more slowly - I got two smaller chips. I then loaded up 3/4" width with the same results in both materials. The GI saw had power in spades for these materials and no vibration. I would've tried maple and oak but I didn't have any.

I'm very satisfied with what I saw this morning and am looking forward to putting this set through the paces.
